Copper Rules: Better Managed Environment and a Better Economy
New Mexico’s Water Quality Control Commission (WQCC) adopted the Copper Rules recommended by the New Mexico Environment Department. The new rules are officially in effect. The New Mexico Water Quality Control Commission (WQCC) approved amendments to the New Mexico Environment Department’s Copper Rules in a 9-1 vote on September 10. The Water Quality Control Commission will have a public hearing related to the New Mexico Environment Department’s proposed copper mining rules. Twelve prominent New Mexico organizations and leaders have endorsed the New Mexico Environment Department’s proposed copper mining rules, the New Mexico Mining Association reports growing community support for this critical issue.
